The Punjab and Haryana High Court has pulled up the Punjab government for failure to take any action to free government and forest land from illegal possession in Nayagaon. The Bench minced no words to say that it appeared that instead of assisting the court, the authorities were attempting to cover up the issue.
Taking up the case pertaining to illegal encroachments in Nayagoan, allegedly by some highly influential persons, the Bench has directed the Punjab government to provide information about the persons who are occupying the land illegally.
Declining the request of the Punjab government counsel to grant more time to file the reply, the Bench issued directions for providing information about illegal occupants of government, shamlat, and forest or village panchayat land. The Bench has also directed authorities to inform the bench about the cases registered and action taken against the illegal occupants. The bench further directed the authorities to also inform about the action taken to get the land freed from illegal occupants.
The petitioners, Kuldeep Singh and others had alleged that huge chunk of government or panchayat land had been illegally occupied by the influential persons, including some senior IAS and IPS officers of Punjab.
