HYDERABAD: Stressing on the
need to protect the common property resources of villages, justice L
Narasimha Reddy of the high court has directed the district collector
of Chittoor to instruct tehsildars to earmark 1% of the total land in
a village or 10 acres of land for grazing and plantation purposes.
The court also asked the principal secretary, revenue, to consider the feasibility of implementing this directive across the state. The judge passed this order after hearing a writ plea filed by Ch Veeraiah of Chittoor district who urged the court to safeguard 11 acres of public land that was being used as a common property resource (CPR) in Chenakavaripalle village of Sodum mandal.
The court also asked the principal secretary, revenue, to consider the feasibility of implementing this directive across the state. The judge directed the
authorities against alienating public land to any party and asked
them to put in place protective measures around the land. The
